Working together to preserve the beauty of Burden Lake for future generations
The Burden Lake Improvement Association or BLIA

The Burden Lake Improvement Association, Inc. (BLIA) was created in the early 1960’s as a social organization. In order to maintain a visible presence, a clubhouse was  constructed to provide a common place for its members to gather and promote goodwill between the members and the community. This original forum quickly changed into one that is primarily focused on the environmental quality of the lake and its surroundings.

This original intent still exists today, but its members now play an even more crucial role in preserving this great resource. The clubhouse is maintained through membership dues and social events scheduled throughout the summer months. Funding to maintain the lake for today and future generations is derived through donations designated specifically for water quality.

Our efforts include:

Monitoring water quality, increasing the number of fish in the lake and providing information to our members

Over the years the Burden Lake Improvement Association has been involved in the following projects:

Water quality management, causeway improvement, bass population restoration, septic tank testing, boat safety and breeding area restoration.

Community based lake protection groups provide many benefits, helping residents to:

Gain strength in numbers, develop a communications network, cultivate partnerships with lake and watershed neighbors, gather information about their lake, raise awareness of lake issues, develop goals and a long-range lake management plan and raise money for lake improvements and protection activities.
